Since Ferrero was founded in 1968, chocolate has been popular with young and old. The surprise egg toys even grow into real collector’s items.
Ferrero’s cult chocolate eggs have been an integral part of supermarket shelves since 1974. But the popularity of the Ü-Ei figures goes far beyond children’s fun: some figures have now become valuable collector’s items and can fetch a considerable amount of money.
The Ü eggs were originally put on sale for the first time at Easter. Back then, the toys were all hand-shaped and painted. Today, of course, production is done by machine. But it’s not just the handmade figures that have a high collector’s value. Those with production errors (e.g. accessories painted differently) are also very popular today.
Smurfs and Pumuckl are worth a lot
You can sometimes make real money with these rare game figures. Some series are more popular and therefore more expensive than others. These include, among other things, Smurf figures or the Pumuckl sets.
One of the most expensive figures is currently the Night Watchman Smurf, which is being traded for up to 12,000 euros, according to the dealer portal “Kleinanzeigen”. However, the prerequisite for the high value is that the figure is made of blue hard plastic, with the hat and pants simply painted on. But other Smurfs such as the Flute Smurf or the Vanity Smurf are also expected to bring in between 4,000 and 10,000 euros.

But it’s not just Smurfs that can achieve high prices: figures like Asterix and certain dwarves are also highly valued among collectors. Even if several thousand euros per figure are the exception, many old and rare Ü-Egg figures cost several hundred euros.
Rarities include Disney’s Robin Hood, the monkey Kiki from a Japanese animated series or the dark green snake Kaa from Disney’s Jungle Book. And be careful: Even the figures’ information leaflets can increase in value considerably. So it can definitely be worth searching through boxes and drawers for old Ü-Egg figures.
