Bayern cannot afford another season like this, they will fight back with all their might and give Leverkusen no chance in the coming season. A lot will change in the club.
Firstly: Thomas Tuchel is leaving the club, a new top coach has to follow – the best is Julian Nagelsmann. He is now even more experienced, knows the club and comes from the region. This fits perfectly.
Secondly: Under the direction of Max Eberl there will be a change in the squad, new world-class players will come. Similar to back in 2007, when Bayern only finished fourth in the previous season and then launched a major attack in the summer. Top players like Franck Ribéry and Luca Toni were signed. The result: In the coming season, the record champions were once again at the top with a ten point lead.
And it remains to be seen whether the successful team from Leverkusen will actually stay together in the end. If Leverkusen wins the Europa League in addition to the championship, all of Europe’s top clubs will finally have Leverkusen’s wonder players on their list – if they aren’t already on it. It currently looks as if Florian Wirtz will stay with Leverkusen for another season, but what if he scores the decisive goal in the Europa League final and then plays a strong European Championship? In that case it can no longer be held.
And then Leverkusen is threatened with a really nasty surprise next season. Bayern passes and Leverkusen fights again for second to fifth place. Because the second year is usually the hardest. This is what the numbers show: Wolfsburg only finished eighth in the 2009/10 season after winning the championship title, Stuttgart came sixth (2007/08) and Kaiserslautern fifth (1998/99).
