Vladimir Putin wants to have full control over everyone who is drafted into the Russian army to attack Ukrainians. Whoever gets the “ticket” must check in with a passport within 5 days and hand it in until… he ends his service. For many young Russians, this means saying goodbye to the document forever, as many of those drafted into the army will not return home.
The State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, has adopted amendments that provide for the withdrawal of passports from people drafted into the army or alternative service, the Meduza portal reported. According to the portal, in the third reading, the State Duma amended the law regulating the procedure for entering and leaving the country.
The adopted amendments provide, inter alia, that: persons who will be drafted into the army or alternative service will be required to deposit their passport with the appropriate state office within five days. You will be able to pick up the document after the end of the service.
As Meduza explains, if a citizen whose right to leave the country has been restricted fails to deposit a passport without a valid reason, the document will be invalidated. The portal, referring to the War Advocates organization, states that if the amendments are finally adopted, after the approval of the upper house of parliament and the president’s signature, they will enter into force 180 days after the official publication.
Therefore, according to lawyers, the new regulations will probably not apply to the autumn conscription campaign.
