Raisi: Israel may cease to exist if it makes another mistake

World news

Israel may cease to exist if it is attacked again, said Iranian President Ebrahim Raiszi while speaking to students at Pakistan’s Lahore University, IRNA news agency quoted him as saying.

“If Israel makes a mistake again and attacks Iranian territory, it will face very different consequences, and it is not certain that there will be anything left of Israel” Raiszi said.

Escalation between Israel and Iran

At the beginning of April, Israel struck a protected diplomatic building, Iran’s Consulate General in Damascus. Tehran said seven Iranian officers were killed, including two senior generals.

Two weeks later, Tehran retaliated by firing hundreds of drones and missiles, including, according to various reports, hypersonic Fattah and Fattah-2 missiles. According to the Israeli authorities, only “a few rockets” reached the territory of the country and caused “minor damage”.

Mohammad Bagheri, the chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, said Tehran had ended the operation and had no plans to continue it. This meant that if Israel retaliated, the next Iranian operation would be larger.

On the night of April 19, Israel carried out a “limited” retaliatory drone strike on Iranian targets. The possible target of the UAV could have been an air base near Isfahan.
