Russia suspends its offensive operations in the Bachmuth sector

Russian offensive operations in the Bakhmut sector in Donbas are suspended, but this does not mean that there is peace there; Russian troops have increased the number of shellings, Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Hanna Malar said on Wednesday.

The deputy minister assured that the south-western outskirts of Bakhmut and the very entrance to the city remain under the control of the Ukrainian forces.

As she added, Russian offensive activities are suspended. She also noted that the enemy forces had increased the number of artillery fires. “The number of shellings today is comparable to that from the period of the toughest battles for Bakhmut,” said the deputy minister.

According to her, Russian forces are currently regrouping, and regular troops are exchanging mercenaries from the Wagner group. These activities are hindered by Ukrainian defenders, she pointed out.

Malar stressed that a few days ago, the movement of Ukrainian forces on the flanks of Bakhmut was stopped. “But that doesn’t mean they’re standing – they’re doing other military tasks that we can’t talk about. These are tasks aimed at increasing the combat capabilities of our troops,” said the deputy minister.

The deputy head of the Ministry of Defense noted that both sides are preparing for further actions and strengthening themselves. “The fight for this episode continues,” she concluded.
