Where do Poles earn the most? In one of the cities, the average is over 10,000. zloty. It’s not about Warsaw

World news

The Central Statistical Office informed about the level of earnings of inhabitants of individual regions of Poland. According to the data of the Central Statistical Office, in one of the cities the average monthly salary exceeds PLN 10,000. zlotys. At the same time, some entrepreneurs and experts note that such statistics do not reflect the real economic situation of Poles, because they significantly overestimate their income.

Data from the Central Statistical Office show that the average salary in the enterprise sector is currently approx. PLN 7.5 thousand. zlotys. Residents of some towns, however, can count on much higher salaries. Although so far the capital of Poland has usually been the leader in similar rankings, currently the average salary of Varsovians places them only in third place among the highest-paid inhabitants of our country.

Earnings of Poles. In seven cities, the average exceeds 7.5 thousand. zloty. The record belongs to Krakow

“Fact” writes that according to the latest data of the Central Statistical Office, the inhabitants of seven voivodship cities earn more than the national average, and in one of them the average salary exceeds PLN 10,000. These cities include:

  • Kraków – average salary: PLN 10,051;
  • Gdansk – PLN 9,645;
  • Warsaw – PLN 9,490;
  • Poznan – PLN 9,161;
  • Katowice – PLN 8,308;
  • Wroclaw – PLN 8,146;
  • Toruń – PLN 7,647.

In two voivodeship cities, the average salary is less than PLN 6,000. zloty. These are Gorzów Wielkopolski (PLN 5,989) and Białystok (PLN 5,893).

Economist Marek Zuber explained why the capital of Lesser Poland can boast of the highest average wage rate. Zuber noticed that many outsourcing companies consider Krakow to be an interesting location. Another factor, according to him, is the tourist attractiveness of the city. “Krakow is geared towards tourists, especially those from abroad. Therefore, salaries in the hotel industry and gastronomy are growing the fastest here. In Krakow, it is difficult to find a chef for 8-9 thousand. PLN on hand, said the economist.

Central Statistical Office data on the average salary is fiction? “The median could be around 20 percent. less”

Some entrepreneurs notice that the cited data do not show the full picture. Statistics of the Central Statistical Office take into account only people employed on a full-time basis and apply only to those companies with at least 10 employees. Szymon Sołtysek, an architect from Gdańsk, also mentions inflation and the cost of living as components of the economic situation of Poles that should be kept in mind.

– I earn about 6 thousand. zloty. We work to pay off the state, and then so that something drips into our household budget. This is not a staggering amount, if we take into account the fact that you need to support a family and an apartment with such money. And there is inflation. In a city like Gdańsk, this is not money on which we can base our future – said Szymon Sołtysek. Another interlocutor of Fakt, a manual worker from Wrocław, notes that his salary is much lower than the average. – Working on the production line in a factory producing household appliances, I did not earn more than PLN 4,000 per month. This is the amount with overtime, because the basic salary is lower – said Mr. Robert.

Experts also emphasize that one should not be too attached to the data published by the Central Statistical Office, which we wrote about. It was pointed out, among others, Mikołaj Fidziński from Gazeta.pl. A journalist specializing in business topics argued that a better measure of earnings is the median, which shows the middle value – half of employees earn more and half less than this amount. The founder of the HR consulting company, Kazimierz Sedlak, said that using the median to describe the situation of Polish entrepreneurs would significantly change the results of the study. – If in March the average wage in the enterprise sector amounted to over PLN 7.5 thousand, PLN, the median could be about 20 percent. less than 6,000 PLN – noted Kazimierz Sedlak, quoted by “Rzeczpospolita”.
