The Qerko payment service, which allows you to pay directly from the table via a QR code in restaurants, has launched an interesting experiment. The latest version of its app allows spending to be paid with bitcoin via the lightning network protocol. In the test run, they are trying to get feedback and possible comments from the community. The feature is hidden in the app by default, but those interested can easily unlock it (here’s the guide).

“We accept payments through the Bitcoin Lightning Network, which makes them fast and cheap. This is not a classic on-chain transaction,” the developer describes the news Josef Kriz.

“The payment itself is mediated by the Confirmo payment gateway, which also handles the conversion to CZK. The company in which the payment is made will receive its money as it is used to – in Czech crowns, and therefore does not have to deal with any additional accounting tasks, and for Qerko this means the possibility to activate BTC payments across the board in all companies at once,” he adds.

The system generates an invoice for the customer, which he pays from his crypto wallet. The payment is then processed by the restaurant’s cash register system.

“In our Qerka development team, we are bitcoin-leaning, every one of us DOES to some degree, and the Qerko topic of bitcoin payments has always been seen as something that will happen, whether we like it or not. Although – let’s face it – at the moment it will not bring any financial benefit to the company. However, I am all the more glad that Qerko is going ahead with it despite the aforementioned shortcomings. It has to start somehow,” explains Kříž.
