Sillinger is an American ice hockey player for the Columbus Blue Jackets who kickstarted his promising career in 2016. And during an appearance on a podcast in 2021, he revealed that McRae and Charli D’Amelio were his celebrity crushes.
“I’m shooting my shot, right,” the hockey player said with a smile. The singer later revealed that the ice hockey reached out to her after she saw the clip of him admitting to having a crush on her. She shared:
“My brother’s best friend is best friends with Cole. So that was, like, where the connection happened. And I was like, ‘Oh, what a coincidence that he said I was his celebrity crush.'”
McRae and Sillinger made their relationship Instagram official in August 2022 when the singer shared a photo dump of their getaway to an undisclosed location.
In 2023, Sillinger faced cheating accusations.
And while her boyfriend was not her plus one to the 2022 MTV VMAs, during an interview — before revealing her hopes of joining her celebrity friends Conan Gray and Olivia Rodrigo in the recording studio — McRae humorously revealed her intentions to continuously hold it against Sillinger that he admitted she was his celebrity crush.

Before her relationship with Sillinger, McRae dated Canadian cinematographer Jonny Hader. In 2020, he was the camera operator while filming her music video for “You Broke Me First.” In October 2022, the couple was filmed enjoying a date night at Catch LA in West Hollywood.
In May 2022, the artist further opened up about her past dating experiences and revealed that she was going through a breakup when she wrote and recorded one of her hit songs, “Hate Myself.” McRae said:
“I was sitting on this beanbag sobbing — literally sobbing my eyes out […] and I just start cutting the song as I was trembling.”
