Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, Ukrainian Ambassador to Ankara Vasyl Bodnar, German Ambassador to Ankara Jürgen Schulz, Latvian Ambassador to Ankara Peteris Vaivars and many guests attended the gala at the Magic Fener Cinema.
The movie “Steppe”, directed by Ukrainian Maryna Vroda, was screened at the gala. Ambassador Bodnar and Ambassador Meyer-Landrut made speeches at the opening of the gala.
Bodnar expressed his happiness for Ukrainian cinema meeting the audience in the “friendly country” Turkey and said, “The decision to project a Ukrainian film on the big screen this year and to initiate Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations go hand in hand. This has a symbolic meaning in itself.” ” he said.

Meyer-Landrut also stated that European Film Days provide an opportunity to celebrate cultural diversity and said, “The power of cinema bridges the gaps between people and destroys stereotypical views.” he said.
Emphasizing that the “Steppe” movie shows the EU’s “unwavering” support for Ukraine, Meyer-Landrut thanked those who contributed to the organization of the festival for their support in developing cultural relations between Europe and Turkey.
In his statement to the press, Meyer-Landrut underlined that it was not a coincidence that a Ukrainian film was shown at the premiere of Film Days and noted that support for Ukraine would continue. The Ambassador stated that they are at the starting point of Ukraine’s EU accession process and that the accession conditions must be met, adding, “Ukraine is a part of Europe.” said.
EUROPEAN MOVIE DAYS
More than 10 films that will meet cinema lovers within the scope of European Film Days will be screened in Ankara on 16-21 April and in Istanbul on 30 April-5 May.
The films, shot in many countries in Europe, will be screened in Antalya, Denizli, Diyarbakır, Edirne, Eskişehir, İzmir, Samsun and Trabzon between 8-12 May.
