“Everything you would like to see in a youth player, you already saw in Dave,” says Jaap Schilder. The head of youth training at RKAV Volendam can still remember the young youth player Dave Kwakman in the orange shirt. “I was particularly struck by his alertness and pleasure.”
The most famous footballer from Volendam at the moment is Joey Veerman. Just like Dave Kwakman, he is a midfielder and also plays football with a lot of calm and overview. Head of youth training at AZ Paul Brandenburg understands the link, but he sets the bar even higher for his pupil. “Dave has to become a better version of Joey, because then he will also play in the Dutch national team.”
