In the comics, the Dark Reign storyline focused on the aftermath of Secret Invasion, which leads to a shift of power in the Marvel Universe as Norman Osborn rises to power. Secret Invasion season 2 could adapt this storyline but with a different character in a position of power, thus introducing a new threat for the MCU characters on Earth.
