Yedioth: 5,000 soldiers have been injured since the start of the war on Gaza

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper revealed on Saturday, December 9, 2023, that more than 5,000 Israeli soldiers have been injured since the beginning of the war last October 7, including more than 2,000 who have been officially recognized as disabled.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said: “The cumulative numbers since October 7 are astronomical: more than 5,000 wounded soldiers arrived at hospitals, and more than 2,000 were officially recognized as disabled in the Israeli army and were received by the Ministry of Security.”

She added that among them were also “1,000 wounded regular soldiers, so they are being cared for by the Israeli occupation army.”

The newspaper did not clarify whether the rest of the wounded soldiers were regular soldiers or not.

The newspaper quoted Limor Luria, head of the rehabilitation department at the Israeli Ministry of Defense, as saying: “We have never experienced anything similar to this. More than 58% of the wounded we receive suffer from serious injuries to the hands and feet, including those that require operations.” Amputation”.

Loria continued: “About 12% of them are internal injuries – the spleen, kidneys, and rupture of internal organs. There are also head and eye injuries.”

The official added that there are “about 7% psychologically injured, a number we know will rise sharply, because the assumption is that every injured body is also psychologically injured, and also because psychological injuries are always discovered months or more after the war.”

It is noteworthy that the death toll of Israeli soldiers since the beginning of the war on October 7 has reached 420, according to official statistics.
