According to Nancy Feser, the country’s authorities are prepared for attacks by hooligans, Islamists and other criminals.
During the Euro 2024 football tournament in Germany, the Ukrainian national team will be provided with enhanced security. German Interior Minister Nancy Feser spoke about this in an interview with the Rheinische Post.
According to her, all teams, fans and guests will be protected at the European Championships. In addition to local police, federal police will be involved, reinforced by forces from all states participating in the tournament.
“However, special measures will be taken for the Ukrainian team. We are doing everything to ensure their safety in Germany, here security measures will be even more stringent,” Feser said.
She noted that German authorities are prepared for the risks posed by hooligans, Islamist terrorists and other violent criminals, as well as cyber attacks during Euro 2024.
“At the 2006 World Cup we did not have similar threats in the digital space. For example, the Federal Office for Information Security is advising UEFA on how to protect the online ticket system from attacks,” the minister added.

On the eve of the start of Euro 2024, UEFA decided to increase the team rosters to 26 players. Increased squads were used at the latest 2021 European Championships as a measure to help countries cope with the effects of the COVID pandemic.
UNIAN also reported that Ukraine rose two positions in the FIFA rankings after winning the qualification for Euro 2024. Now the blue-yellow team ranks 22nd in it.
