The Russian Federation wants to ban the issuance of documents to citizens abroad

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation could begin discussing a ban on the issuance and replacement of documents abroad. This was reported by the Russian media Novaya Gazeta.

The draft order, which ended up in the hands of the editors, states that it is possible to “temporarily suspend the issuance of passports, the provision of notary services, services for the legalization and collection of documents, and resolution of citizenship issues” by the consular offices of the enemy diplomatic department in other countries.

It is noteworthy that the Russians can introduce such restrictions this year.

“If this order is signed, Russians who are abroad will be forced to return to Russia to change their expired documents,” the message says.

The Russian Foreign Ministry did not respond to a request from the Novaya Gazeta media outlet as to whether the order was real and whether there was a possibility of introducing restrictions.

Separately, journalists recalled that a similar ban on exchanging documents abroad has been in effect for citizens of Belarus for some time. Many Belarusian emigrants who, due to political persecution or other reasons, cannot return to their homeland, are forced to live around the world with expired documents.

Let us remind you that on April 24, the Cabinet of Ministers announced that Ukrainian men will no longer be able to obtain a passport abroad. According to government decree, the migration service is prohibited from forwarding passports to diplomatic authorities in other countries.

Later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained the Cabinet’s decision on passports for men abroad. According to the department, the operating procedure of the consular service remains unchanged, and the passport service of the State Enterprise “Document” is not part of the ministry’s system.
