World news

In the Rostov region, a search was launched for the soldiers of the Storm Z unit, who had escaped after the murder of their commander. According to Russian media reports, the escapees are former prisoners. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reports that in the vicinity of Bakhmut, several dozen soldiers from the Wagner Group also escaped from the battlefield.

On Saturday, the Russian independent Novaya Gazeta Yevropa, citing media reports, provided information about the refugees. “In the Rostov region, security forces are searching for a group of 39 former prisoners of the Storm Z unit who escaped in the Luhansk People’s Republic after the murder of their commander. Officially, the authorities did not comment on the information about the deserters,” it was written. In turn, the Astra channel reported that the refugees “can move around in a Kamaz truck and a Mitsubishi L200 car, they can also be dressed in civilian clothes and use false documents.”

The TASS agency also reports about soldiers who left the military unit without the consent of the commander. “Seven soldiers – former prisoners – arbitrarily left the military unit in the DPR. We were informed about this by law enforcement. In the area of Sołedar, seven former prisoners escaped with weapons from a military unit. The law enforcement authorities detained two more soldiers who left the military unit in the Soledar region without permission,” it was reported via Telegram. The agency added that “the men were in Bryanka’s coffee shop and were intoxicated. Another deserter was shot by the escapees themselves when he wanted to surrender.

There were speculations on Telegram that perhaps the information about the escapees was false and intended to cause confusion among Russian soldiers. However, Portal 161, citing the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, wrote that the police were “investigating information about the escape”. On the other hand, officers in the Rostov region were to strengthen patrolling of border crossings in the Luhansk region with Ukraine.
