Weronika Kudiermietowa (11th WTA) in Paris was seeded with “11”. She came to the capital of France after two very good performances – in prestigious tournaments in Madrid and Rome. She reached the semi-finals in both.

In the first round of Roland Garros, Weronika Kudermietowa faced Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, the 100th competitor in the world ranking and was, of course, a definite favourite. The Slovakian has a terrible record this season – she took part in twelve tournaments and in none of them advanced beyond the second round! Two weeks ago, Schmiedlova was eliminated in the first round of the challenger in Florence with the Swiss Ylena In-Albon (149th WTA).
On Monday, however, Schmiedlova played very well against the Russian. She won in an hour, twenty minutes 6:3, 6:1! The Slovak scored more points than her rival both after the first (67-46 percent) and after the second serve (47-31 percent). In addition, Schmiedlova made far fewer unforced errors (21-40). The fact that she had more winners (14-7) did not help Kudermietowa. The Russian never broke her rival (she had only three chances), and she lost her application three times.
– Anna Karolina Schmiedlova dealt with Veronika Kudermetova 6:3, 6:1! Definitely the most valuable victory of the Slovakian this season. She had to wait a long time for everything to come together in her game and she managed to do it at the best possible moment – Szymon Przybysz wrote on Twitter.
Already in the first round, another seeded player (number 10) – Petra Kvitova was also eliminated. The Czech lost to the Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (44th WTA) 3:6, 4:6.
Schmiedlova is in the upper part of the ladder, in the same as Iga Świątek. However, he may face the Polish woman only in the fourth round. Now the rival of the Slovakian will be the Spaniard Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov (131st WTA).
