Prague – Today, the Parliament should primarily discuss the EU migration pact. The extraordinary meeting on this topic was called by the opposition movement ANO. ANO legislators consider the new EU migration rules to be one of the biggest mistakes of the government of Petr Fiala (ODS) from the time of the Czech presidency in the Council of the EU and want to discuss them in the plenary session of the House of Representatives. It depends on the government coalition and its majority whether the approval of the program will allow the extraordinary meeting. Only priority speakers will be allowed to speak before the agenda is voted on.

MEPs approved the migration pact last week. According to ANO chairman Andrej Babiš, the pact does not solve the problem with migrants. According to him, it also contains hidden quotas for refugees. According to the ANO legislators, the approved form of the pact is a betrayal. Interior Minister Vít Rakušan (STAN), on the other hand, defends the package, saying that it will enable more effective protection of the external borders of the European Union and faster deportations.

According to the Czech Ministry of the Interior (MV), the Migration Pact does not include an amount that a member state would have to pay for an unaccepted migrant. On the contrary, it contains an amendment proposed by the Czech side. According to the MoI, this regulation stipulates that the states affected by significant migratory pressure will also include those with a high number of persons granted temporary protection, i.e. refugees from Ukraine, on their territory.

Even before the debate on migration, MPs will engage in regular written interpellations with the government. In the afternoon, they should discuss oral interpellations.
