Vardan Oskanian: US is not to blame, Armenia is to blame

World news

Ex-Foreign Minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanian called another drop of humiliation for Armenia “curtseys” of the representative of the US State Department to the Azerbaijani president.

This is how the former high-ranking diplomat, who headed the Armenian Foreign Ministry in 1998-2008, perceived the statement of the Spokesman of the American department Matthew Miller that Washington “welcomes” Ilham Aliyev’s readiness for an amnesty (representatives of the Karabakh leadership).

According to Oskanian, after the change of power in 2018, when the wrong choice became obvious, the Armenian people found themselves in a whirlpool of humiliation. It seemed that the apogee of humiliation was the defeat in the 44-day war, but it turned out that this was not so.

As the ex-minister noted, the main humiliation is ahead: Nikol Pashinyan surrendered Nagorno-Karabakh orally, and soon, for sure, he will surrender in writing.

“Another drop of humiliation was that the United States welcomed the “good will” of Ilham Aliyev to the amnesty of the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh. Let’s imagine for a moment what this means. This means that the most corrupt and authoritarian leader in the world promises forgiveness to the chosen ones of the people who have been living on their own for thousands of years. native land, the people against whom the most brutal violence was used for decades in order to tear them away from the historical land that was never part of an independent Azerbaijan. And the US welcomes this step?” – said the politician.

At the same time, he is not inclined to blame the Americans. From the point of view of the ex-Foreign Minister, there is only one culprit – the current authorities of Armenia. And the only way out of this humiliating state and a turning point in the situation is to force the authorities to leave through public pressure.

Oskanian is convinced that the Armenians have no more important task than protesting against the flagrant historical injustice and demanding to abandon the process of surrendering Nagorno-Karabakh.

“Now Nikol Pashinyan is in Chisinau. I don’t know whether he will sign the document or not, but the outcome of the negotiations is predetermined for everyone. I think that Armenia today has the opportunity to avoid signing any document with Azerbaijan. There are justified reasons for this, understandable to everyone,” the ex-minister believes.

But if Pashinyan still wants to sign the document, then this should be done with reservations about the future status of Nagorno-Karabakh. Pashinyan’s signing of what he spoke about orally will be the greatest humiliation and national tragedy, the former head of the RA Foreign Ministry is convinced.

Earlier, the head of government said that he recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan within 86.6 thousand square meters. km, which includes the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.
