The Administration of the Faculty of Medicine of the Greek Academy of Sciences provides its support to the doctors of the “Attikon” hospital, after the matter that arose from the complaints of the ND MP Yannis Kallianou.
In a statement co-signed by the president of the School of Medicine, Professor Nikolaos Arkadopoulos and the vice-president, Konstantinos Tsioufis, it is stated that “the professors of all Clinics and Laboratories, including the Vascular Surgery Clinic and the Second Intensive Care Clinic, are internationally renowned and provide the the same high level of care to all patients of the Hospital without exception”.

Alexis Kougias spoke on Friday morning (26.4) to Ant1 about the case of the death of his father Yiannis Kallianos. “Mr. Kallianos came to my office and asked me to represent him, citing extreme medical errors regarding his father’s hospitalization. The father of Mr. Kallianos, died despite the assurances of the doctors that his tests were very good and he will have a short hospitalization”.
Alexis Kougias commented on the stance taken by the Minister of Health on the matter, saying that “Adonis Georgiadis’ behavior has made a very bad impression on me”, attributing to him “extreme defense of the system, ignoring the facts.”
Death of Father Kallianos: The answer of the doctor of “Atticon”
The Professor of Vascular Surgery at the “Attikon” hospital gave his own answer to the ND MP, Yiannis Kallianos, through his lawyers. The professor participated in the medical team that managed the case of the MP’s father, Dimitris, who passed away yesterday, Thursday.
Among other things, in his statement he states that “the complexity of the deceased’s health problems required the collaboration of a cardiologist, a pulmonologist, a nephrologist, an infectious disease specialist and an intensivist. The scientific opinion of all of the above was that any intubation of the patient, without an absolute indication, would constitute an incorrect medical procedure, as his extubation would be practically impossible” and he adds:
“The admission to M.E.Th. non-intubated patient, who did not meet the medical conditions and at the same time was a relative of a Member of Parliament, would constitute impermissible discriminatory treatment”.

“Our principal I.K., Professor of Vascular Surgery, expresses his sincere regret for the death of Dimitrios Kallianos. All the doctors tried to deal with the multiple health problems that the deceased had, as their medical duty dictates and as they work for all patients without exception.
The complexity of the deceased’s health problems required the collaboration of a cardiologist, a pulmonologist, a nephrologist, an infectious disease specialist and an intensivist. The scientific opinion of all of the above was that any intubation of the patient, without an absolute indication, would constitute an incorrect medical procedure, as extubation would be practically impossible.
The admission of patients to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is governed by strict medical rules, which apply to all people, and the relevant decision is made by all attending physicians. Admission to M.E.Th. of a non-intubated patient, who did not meet the medical conditions and at the same time was a relative of a Member of Parliament, would constitute impermissible discriminatory treatment. During April 23, the patient worsened and it was decided to admit him to the ICU. at 18.30, after his intubation preceded it. Unfortunately, his very poor health did not allow him to avoid the fatal accident.”
