According to artist Ksenia Kharaman, she plans to restore old inscriptions on a stele in the Donetsk region using videos and photographs and has now already collected more than a hundred such documentary evidence.
On Tuesday, April 23, it became known that artists from the Donetsk region want to restore numerous records of military and volunteers on the stele marking the entrance to the Donetsk region. They left them behind when they headed to the front, noted local artist and volunteer Ksenia Kharaman in a commentary to “Suspilne. Donbass”.
She proposes to do this without damaging the new records that appeared immediately after the locals restored the stele in yellow and blue colors, but painted over the previous ones. To do this, the artist plans to create a kind of art object.
Haraman explained her idea of restoring old inscriptions using videos and photographs and has now collected more than a hundred such documentary evidence.

“We are now digitizing the inscriptions from photographs and preparing to print stickers, we are developing a project to restore the inscriptions to make it interesting, so that more people will join our idea,” the artist explained.
She emphasized that it is usually very difficult to implement such a project on your own. Therefore, volunteers of the NGO “Vilna Volya” participate in the initiative. In addition, the artist received many messages on social networks, where people make specific proposals and offer interesting ideas.
“Interesting people are responding, in particular designers: some offer to create a website, others offer online promotion. The idea is this: to create something like sticker packs, but on a transparent plastic base and in a larger format,” said the volunteer.
When asked how much money she was going to do this for, Haraman replied that she and the supporters of the idea had not yet made any calculations, but they already have people from business who are ready to join in financing this art object.
“If necessary, we can announce a collection of donations, but I think we can handle it on our own,” the artist emphasized.
In addition, given the number of people who want to leave their inscription on the stele as a mark in history, Kharaman suggests that it may be necessary to make another similar stele, which will travel around the country so that everyone who wanted to join, but could not come, had the opportunity do it on such an installation.
“Someone in my community joked that we would make another stele and put it in the center of Kyiv. This is most likely what will happen. It will be an art object that will preserve the memory of the people who left there inscriptions in the first two years of the war,” the artist noted.
