Assad said that the Russian invasion of Ukraine “will change the course of history” - UNIAN War in Ukraine news

He stated that Russia is supposedly “fighting global terror.”

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad believes that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will “change the course of history.”

The politician stated this in the “Global Majority” program of the Moscow media, the monitoring group DeepState reports.

“Russia, as a powerful state, resists Western interference in the internal affairs of other countries. For me, it makes no difference where Russia fights global terror – in Syria or in Ukraine, there is only one enemy,” he said.

Assad talked about “Ukrainian Nazis” who have been supported by the United States since World War II and “used in the fight against Russia.”

“I am confident that the confrontation will end in Russia’s victory, and it will once again unite the fraternal peoples,” Bashar said.

Analysts of the project note that the “axis of evil” has long been formed and it is getting stronger – this interview only once again confirms that Syria belongs to it.

Syria and Ukraine

As UNIAN reported, on June 30, 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Syria due to the recognition of the “independence” of the Donbass territories temporarily occupied by the Russian army.

The Foreign Ministry recalled that in connection with the crimes of the Bashar al-Assad regime against the Syrian people, Ukraine closed its embassy in Damascus back in 2016, and also ordered the closure of the Syrian embassy in Kyiv in 2018. The Ukrainian Embassy in Lebanon protects the interests of Ukrainians in Syria.

Subsequently, the Syrian authorities decided to sever diplomatic relations with Ukraine in accordance with the principle of reciprocity in response to a similar decision by Kyiv.
