Consular services will become unavailable to Ukrainians of military age from April 23.
The new mobilization bill signed by Vladimir Zelensky will affect not only the residents of Ukraine. Important changes will affect Ukrainians abroad – men will stop receiving almost all services from consulates. Zerkalo Nedeli told about how consular services for Ukrainian citizens will be limited.
Termination of consular services for men abroad – what is known
The cessation of consular services for Ukrainians will come into force on April 23 and will last until official clarification of the law on mobilization is given.
Some institutions no longer accept documents from those liable for military service. For example, the Ukrainian consulate in Poland does not provide services to men of military age until instructions are received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The publication Zerkalo Nedeli publishes a document according to which It is recommended to suspend the provision of consular services for men from April 23 “in order to prevent citizens of Ukraine from avoiding responsibilities to resolve the issue of military registration by territorial centers for the acquisition and availability of military registration documents.”
However, not all consular services for men of military age will be limited. Men will still be able to apply ID cards for returning to Ukraine.
UNIAN is trying to get an official comment from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on the restriction of consular services.
Ukrainians will have to register abroad
The mobilization bill, which will come into force on May 18, contains information about those liable for military service abroad. According to the law, men of military age will have 2 months to register for military service abroad. To do this they will have to update your personal data in TCC through the consulate, the office of a military service member, telephone number or email.
If a man of military age does not update his data, his consular services will be limited and he may be fined.
At the same time, the mobilization of men abroad will be possible only if the Ukrainian himself returns to Ukraine. Men will not be deported after data updatesince the authorities do not have such tools.
