Ukraine and NATO - Zelensky called to close the sky from Russian attacks - video War in Ukraine news

According to the president, Israel is not a member of NATO, and therefore the country did not fall under the protection of Article 5 of the Alliance. However, none of the allies were drawn into the war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on NATO and other countries to close the skies over Ukraine to protect it from Russian missiles and drones the same way Israel was protected from Iran. The head of state shared his opinion in a new address on April 15.

According to Zelensky, Israel, the United States, Great Britain, France and Jordan acted together to repel the Iranian attack. The unity was based on sufficient political will. The whole world was able to observe the effectiveness.

“Together they did not allow terror to take over. And they are working together – with many others – to prevent further escalation,” the president said.

The President of Ukraine noted that Israel is not a NATO member, and therefore the country did not fall under the protection of Article 5 of the Alliance. However, none of the allies were drawn into the war.

Zelensky noted that Shahed UAVs in the skies over Ukraine “sound” the same as in the skies of the Middle East. In addition, ballistic missiles hit equally well.

“The skies of Europe could have long ago received exactly the kind of protection that is needed if Ukraine also had such full support from its partners in shooting down drones and missiles. Terror must lose everywhere and completely, and not somewhere else, but somewhere- then less,” the president noted.

The head of state also thanked Ukraine’s partners who donated air defense systems, missiles to protect the sky, and also help Ukrainian pilots master F-16 fighters.

“All this works and will continue to work to protect life. But we see now how unity can really work one hundred percent and how almost one hundred percent of Shaheeds and missiles can be shot down. We will talk with partners about this,” noted Zelensky.

Vladimir Zelensky about help in closing the sky

Earlier it was reported that the Czech Republic believes that Ukraine deserves the same support as Israel after the Iranian attack. Thus, according to the Czech Minister of European Affairs Martin Dvořák, Iran’s attack on Israel was successfully repelled thanks to the quick international reaction and willingness to defend airspace.

However, the British Foreign Office explained why they would not shoot down drones over Ukraine, as in Israel. According to Minister David Cameron, what Ukraine needs most is modern air defense systems like Patriot. While the destruction of Russian UAVs could allegedly lead to escalation between the Russian Federation and NATO.
