Today the Orthodox Church honors the memory of St. Elizabeth. The Venerable Elizabeth was born into a pious Christian family and was sent by her parents to a monastery at a young age. There she led a strict ascetic life: she constantly prayed, fasted and worked hard. She wore old clothes and fought against worldly temptations. It was thanks to this that Elizabeth was elected abbess. She was engaged in training women, charity, helping orphans and the poor. Already during her lifetime she was given the gift of miracles and clairvoyance.
