AMLO: United States responds to criticism from the president over human rights report

“Of course, the publication of the human rights report is not a violation of international law,” said the deputy spokesperson for the State Department, Vedant Patel, in a press conference, when asked about López Obrador’s comments.

Patel explained that the report is “a compilation of entries made from credible information from the media, government agencies, civil society actors, embassies and consulates.”

The 2023 report, published on Monday, states that López Obrador and other members of his Government They have “criticized on numerous occasions judges who ruled against the Administration” and several followers of the President protested against the president of the Supreme Court, Norma Piña.

López Obrador said Tuesday that the report is “a big lie from the State Department” and reproached the United States for acting as if it were “the judge in the world and rate who behaves well or who behaves badly.”

This Wednesday he attacked the report again and accused Washington of being “flagrantly violating international law, the independence and sovereignty of peoples.”

The report prepared since 1977 by the State Department serves as a guide to the United States Congress when determining the foreign aid granted to each country.
