It is known that for the second day in a row there are, among others, to explosions, and Russian local authorities advise residents not to return to their homes, Kiev denies being behind the attacks, and now a Kremlin spokesman says that it has still not been possible to repel the “militants”.

“This once again confirms that Ukrainian militants continue their operations against our country. This requires a lot of effort from us and these efforts are continued,” said Dmitry Peskov, referring to the situation in the Belgorod region (quoted by Reuters). Responding to a question about reports that the attacking group is ethnic Russians, a Kremlin spokesman replied: “These are Ukrainian fighters from Ukraine. Many ethnic Russians live in Ukraine. But they are still Ukrainian fighters.”

What’s going on in Belgorod? Russia launched an investigation

Ukraine consistently denies having anything to do with the attacks, and Kiev is only “looking into the matter.” Russia launched a terrorism investigation, and a state of “anti-terrorist operation” was introduced in the area affected by the clashes. Fighting in the Belgorod region has been going on for the second day. Partisans from the “Freedom of Russia” legion are to take part in them. They wrote on their website that, while clashing with police and Rosgvardiya officers, they continued the operation to liberate the region together with the “Russian Volunteer Corps”. They entered Russia yesterday – Monday, May 22.

Almost all the inhabitants of nine villages have evacuated near Belgorod, according to independent websites. The governor of the oblast advised the population not to return home yet. Some Russian media write about the “panic” of civilians. According to the Meduza portal, Russian towns are being shelled with mortars, and explosives were supposedly dropped there by drones on Monday evening and at night. Photos of the Grajworon border crossing damaged by missiles have appeared on the Internet.
