The incident, which took place in mid-February in the “Miralem Jugo” barracks of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina near Mostar, raised the police and security forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports Večernji list BiH. A source close to the investigation states that shooting exercises were held in the barracks Wahhabis, and even minors. The details of the case have not yet been published by the agencies or the Prosecutor’s Office.
On February 16, a white van with several people, including minors, arrived at the barracks near Mostar. The persons had permission from the BiH Ministry of Defense to use the shooting range, which is otherwise used by civilians, and where marksmanship training for police officers was conducted.
This group came organized as part of the Velež practical shooting club. They were allowed to go to the shooting range where they fired a pistol. The soldier, who was on guard duty that day, and was not supposed to be, everything became suspicious when he saw the men who were shooting were being watched by women dressed according to Islamic regulations with niqabs.
The soldier took a picture of the van and the dead women and men watching the two shoot the targets. He handed the photo over to his superior after an investigation was launched. Not long after that, a decision was made that the shooting range is no longer used by other institutions except members of the BiH Armed Forces. The investigation of the whole case involved the Ministry of Defense, the local police, whose jurisdiction is shooting clubs, and shortly after that, other police and security agencies that document what happened, reports Veernjak.
The investigation established that the shooting range had been used by people for dubious reasons. On February 16, ten people used the shooting range, including three minors.
Several of them have dual citizenship of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Denmark, and from the same family they are members of a parade, members of the Wahhabi movement. The investigation revealed the details that this shooting range was also used by two French citizens of Arab origin who have nothing to do with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The information is unverified, but it is suspected that one of these persons is connected to radical Islamist groups.
The group used American Glock pistols and Croatian HS pistols. The investigation also established that the club does not have permission to use live ammunition.
This case points to numerous omissions in the use of shooting and airsoft clubs.
