The former liberal leader Theodor Stolojan declared on Friday on the program “LIVE with Rotaru È™i Kiss” that if Mircea Geoană will not have the support of a party to run for the presidential elections, then Nicolae Ciucăƒ and Marcel Ciolacu would have chances for this function. About the current Secretary General of NATO, Stolojan says that Nicolae Ciucăƒ is the most qualified among them to be president, even compared to Geoanăƒ, who, in his essence, is a bureaucrat, who held a very important position.
Asked if one of the two leaders of the Coalition has a chance to be a presidential candidate, Theodor Stolojan says: “You will laugh, but there is a chance, because there is no one above.” , with the exception of Mr. Geoană, who, without a party behind him, will not be able to run a campaign.
The former liberal leader says that if Mircea Geoană won’t run for president supported by PSD, Nicolae Ciucă or Marcel Ciolacu would have a chance to become president.
That’s what the polls show. Mircea Geoană can collect signatures, but he will not be able to run an electoral campaign without a party behind him. Collecting signatures is not complicated.
I see Mr. Ciucăƒ as president. He is the most qualified of all, even compared to Geoana, who, in his essence, is a bureaucrat, who occupied a very important position. The office of president is not for a bureaucrat. It is a function of great decision, especially in critical moments. If you are not used to making decisions in critical situations, it would be very bad for Romania if it did not have such a president. Ciucă has this decision-making experience, Geoană does not.
If the results of the presidential elections go well, both parties said that they will continue this alliance, which does not necessarily mean that they must go jointly to the parliamentary or presidential elections. The alliance must carry the government to the end.
It is possible that both Nicolae Ciucăƒ and Marcel Ciolacu will run for the presidency, and that would be desirable, because they are two different parties, different in conception, in the results which they had. The Europarliamentary…alliance has a very serious foundation. Romania’s interests in relation to the EU are the same for PSD and PNL. So here there are very solid arguments for which the alliance must obtain the best possible result. Look at what a party that sends MEPs to the EP and whose president declares that the Republic of Moldova is not a state could tell you. Do you realize?
The simple solutions thrown on the table win, “sir, it’s bad for us because the EU is dictating to us”. Those who are really doing badly in Romania are open to this message, “and we have the solution, how are we going to go there, we are going to overturn or influence the decisions of the EU as to stop harming us. This kind of message resonates a lot, because, unfortunately, we still have social groups in Romania that are not doing well at all – we have over a million pensioners with a very low pension, we have a lot of salaried and who have contracts at the minimum wage level. On the other hand, it’s a process, but Romania has progressed, many people have come out of the threat of poverty, said Stolojan.
