Madrid – Czech tennis players Karolína Plíšková and Marie Bouzková withdrew from the big clay tournament in Madrid, which starts on Tuesday. According to the Tenis portal, an injury prevented them from playing.

Former world number one Plíšková was supposed to play against Emma Raducanu from Great Britain in the first round, but due to an ankle injury, she will miss Madrid for the second year in a row. The organizers have not yet announced the new opponent of the 2021 US Open champion.

Bouzková withdrew from Madrid, where she reached the third round last year, due to problems with her right elbow. In the first round, there will be no Czech duel with Kateřina Siniaková, who will instead play against Nadia Podoroská from Argentina.

Czech tennis will have a large presence in the women’s part of the tournament in Madrid even after the withdrawal of Plíšková and Bouzková. In the first round, Brenda Fruhvirt will face Arantxe of Russia from the Netherlands, and her sister Linda will challenge Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu.

The seventh player in the world ranking, Markéta Vondroušová, Linda Nosková and Barbora Krejčíková will reach the second round as seeds. In the qualification, Sára Bejlek can still win a place in the main competition.
