The first US state to ban TikTok. There is a decision

World news

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte signed a bill on Wednesday banning the use of the Chinese short video app TikTok in the state. Montana is the first state in America to ban TikTok.

The Chinese Communist Party’s use of TikTok to spy on Americans, invade their privacy, collect their personal, private and sensitive information is well documented, argued Gianforte. He called the bill “the most decisive action of any state.”

TikTok, owned by Chinese tech company ByteDance, is facing increasing calls from some US lawmakers. They are calling for the app to be banned nationwide due to concerns about the Chinese government’s potential influence over the platform.

Gianforte also banned the use of all social media apps that collect and share personal or other information with hostile foreign adversaries on government-issued devices.

Any violation of the ban may result in a fine of $10,000. Enforcement will be handled by the Montana Department of Justice.
