The criminal investigation into the murder of a 47-year-old citizen of Ukraine in Slavonski Brod has been completed. After the body of a 47-year-old man was found in a house in Brod on April 23, several Ukrainian citizens were detained, and the police suspected a 22-year-old Ukrainian citizen of the murder after an investigation.

Police officers handed over the 22-year-old man to the detention supervisor of the Brod-Posavina Police Department last night at 9:00 p.m. with a criminal report on suspicion of committing the crime of murder.

Today, he was taken to the County State Attorney’s Office in Slavonski Brod for questioning, and then he will be brought before the investigating judge in the Brod County Court.

The remaining three persons who were detained, also foreign citizens, are not linked to the commission of a criminal offense and have been released, the police announced.

RTL previously reported that all those detained were Ukrainian citizens. These are construction workers who recently arrived in Croatia. They came at the beginning of the year, and after the start of the war they were also in Poland. Those killed and detained knew each other from before.

“It’s a little shocking, the workers, they had a little to drink, supposedly the deceased’s birthday was being celebrated, so I don’t know what happened next,” said Nikola Zastrizhni, representative of the Ukrainian national minority in Brod-Posavina County.
