An ancient artifact was found in Denmark that dates back to 200 AD. e. What’s intriguing is that it depicts the face of Alexander the Great.
Near Ringsted on the Danish island of Zealand, two searchers with metal detectors stumbled upon an ancient artifact. They found a bronze plate decorated with the image of one of the most famous ancient rulers: Alexander the Great, writes Arkeonews.

The artifact found near Ringsted dates back to 200 AD. BC, a time known as the Roman Iron Age. As the researchers note, the find is associated with a key moment in the history of Denmark – the Battle of Illerup Ådal. This battle took place during the reign of Emperor Caracalla, who considered himself the reincarnation of Alexander the Great.

After the battle, various weapons were sacrificed to the gods, in particular bows, swords and shields, which were thrown into the lake. During their research, archaeologists discovered shields decorated with tiny decorative disks with portraits of warriors. One of the artifacts is decorated with an image of Alexander the Great, identical to the one found at Ringested.
The significance of this find lies not only in its rarity, but also in the countless questions it raises. What was the purpose of these bronze jewelry? Were they decorative decorations for shields, or perhaps part of a sword belt? And how did an artifact associated with the Roman Empire end up on a field in Denmark?
“This is a unique find in Scandinavia, which is associated with one of the most famous figures in world history,” commented Frirk Oldenburger, an archaeologist at the Vestsjælland museum.
