According to Dmitry Pletenchuk, many Russian ships remain in Crimea in the future.
Despite its serious age, the Kommuna rescue ship, which was hit by the Defense Forces the day before, was unique, Dmitry Pletenchuk, speaker of the Ukrainian Navy, said on the telethon.
“This ship carried out its tasks to the last, it had the necessary equipment on board, there were underwater drones. It was used to search for elements that were of interest to the leadership of the Black Sea Fleet at the site of the death of the cruiser Moscow, it lowered the corresponding drones to these locations. Its last purpose was to cover its own a corps of warships in the harbor – the enemy chose the tactic of hiding one unit behind another in Crimea,” Pletenchuk explained.
He also added that despite the systematic destruction, Russia continues to hold a large number of ships of the Black Sea Fleet in the occupied Crimea.
“But these are secondary ships, the most valuable assets are in Novorossiysk. Large landing ships, support vessels, minesweepers, everything that the Russian Federation is ready to sacrifice in order to maintain its combat functionality remain in Crimea for repairs,” Pletenchuk noted.
In addition, the speaker of the naval forces spoke about the tactics of the Russian Federation after the change of commander of the Black Sea Fleet.
“You have to understand that this is all one school. And you shouldn’t expect any extraordinary changes. They partially changed their tactics, strengthening the air component, patrolling the coastal strip with drones and helicopters. But these tactics remained his inheritance. In general, they continue look for a way out of this situation when they are forced to be on the defensive,” Pletenchuk said.
According to him, now the ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet remain at their bases. The enemy is trying to strengthen measures to patrol the water area in order to protect the remains of its ships.
“The greatest threat to Ukraine remains carriers of cruise missiles, sea platforms that are capable of launching them. Among them there are also submarines, among which there are now three units. And these objects are more difficult to hit. But any submarine is still based at a base on the surface situation,” Pletenchuk concluded.
On the night of April 9, explosions occurred in the bay of occupied Sevastopol. The Gauleiter of the city, Mikhail Razvozhaev, said that the air defense was activated, but the infrastructure was not damaged.
Subsequently, information appeared that the attack was carried out on one of the Russian ships in Sevastopol. RosSMI later confirmed that the Kommuna rescue ship was hit as a result of the strike.
This information was later confirmed by Dmitry Pletenchuk, saying that the nature of the damage was being verified.
The importance of this vessel was appreciated by Forbes, stating that without the Commune, the remaining submarines of the Black Sea Fleet will have to sail without support.
