Cars confiscated from Russians in Germany

The sanctions are working.

Germany began to confiscate cars with Russian numbers. Russians lose their personal cars while traveling in Europe. The reason is the ban on the import of vehicles from Russia due to sanctions, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to the Russian Embassy in Germany.

The department confirmed cases of confiscation by German customs of cars with Russian numbers. We are talking about vehicles that are temporarily imported for personal use or transit.

Earlier, Russian tourists complained that after traveling through Europe they were stopped by the police on the autobahn in Germany. The car with Russian numbers was taken away by a tow truck, and the travelers with their belongings were left on the road.

“Russian citizens are charged with violating the German law “On Foreign Trade” with reference to EU Council Regulation No. 833/2014 of July 31, 2014 “On restrictive measures in connection with Russia’s actions to destabilize the situation in Ukraine.” Article 3 and the said Regulation stipulate a ban on the sale and import into the territory of the EU countries of a number of goods (cargo), including cars,” the embassy website says.

In addition, citizens of the Russian Federation are warned about the possibility of criminal prosecution in connection with the violation of German law.

The agency recommends that Russian citizens refrain from importing vehicles with Russian registration numbers into Germany.
