Statements by the Russian command about the capture of Novomikhailovka (Donetsk region) do not correspond to reality, said Yaroslav Chepurnoy, press officer of the 79th separate air assault brigade, during a telethon.
“The situation is tense and complicated. The enemy is indeed now in the populated area. Fighting is taking place directly in the village, and not just on the outskirts. But what the Russian command said that Russian troops captured Novomikhailovka is not so. Part of the populated area point – about 15% – is currently controlled by us and will be controlled in the future,” he emphasized.
At the same time, Chepurnoy emphasized that very heavy fighting continues: “These battles can be called total, because the enemy completely destroys our positions in the village, smashing them with artillery and FPV drones. We also, if the enemy captures positions, destroy them.”
According to the speaker, Novomikhailovka is now similar to Marinka, which the brigade defended for more than a year and which was almost completely wiped off the face of the earth by the enemy:
“And now the same thing is happening in Novomikhailovka. Considering that the houses there are small, one-story, many have walls made of adobe, that is, made of clay and are very easily destroyed, then there is now no longer a settlement, but a field…”
He added that the enemy forces are very powerful, the hot phase of the battles for this settlement began somewhere at the end of last autumn, during which time more than 300 units of enemy equipment were destroyed, 10 Russian military units took part in the assaults.
Novomikhailovka – what is the situation
As UNIAN reported, Russia announced the alleged complete capture of Novomikhailovka, Donetsk region. However, part of this settlement is still controlled by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
The commander of the 79th separate air assault Tauride brigade, Evgeniy Shmataluk, said that the part of Novomikhailovka where the enemy is located is “under our fire control, which is important.”
