21-year-old Robert Michelsen from Norway visited 18 European countries for only $7,471 (296 thousand hryvnia). To cut costs, the thrifty tourist spent the night in caves and ate raw eggs. The New York Post writes about this.
The guy traveled alone across the mainland for eight months and visited countries such as Portugal, Serbia, Croatia and Poland. Robert saved money by avoiding restaurants and eating raw eggs and carrots.
“I slept in caves and on beaches. Discomfort is the price you pay for freedom. I wanted to see the world and I don’t think money should stop me. I relied on the skills I acquired from a young age,” the tourist said.
Robert always loved to travel. In February 2023, he began his solo journey, staying for free at a farm in the Portuguese Azores. The resourceful tourist milked the cows every morning for a month in exchange for housing and food. He continued to explore the islands, spending a week in a tent on the beach.
Traveling around Europe, Robert stayed in hostels when visiting cities and in tents when in more remote places. Sometimes he met friends and stayed with them in inexpensive villas. While he and his brother were camping in Portofino, Italy, they were spooked by a pack of wolves.
“The animals circled around our tent. After that, I took a break from camping and started staying in hostels,” the tourist noted.
In six months, the guy visited 13 countries and returned to Norway in August 2023. Robert estimates his expenses for airfare, accommodation, food and entertainment to be just $5,320. After four months at home, he traveled to Budapest for the New Year and then visited Slovakia, Austria, Morocco and England. This time Robert had more funds to pay for the hostel and food, but his travel expenses were only $2,116.
Previously Focus reported that people live in a remote city in which it has been forbidden to die for more than 70 years. Such a rule may be adopted for various reasons. This could be a lack of space in cemeteries or extreme weather conditions causing complications.
It also became known that a drunken tourist decided to tease the bison, after which he was attacked by the animal. One of the eyewitnesses filmed the incident on his phone camera. The man waved his arms widely, inviting the huge animal to come closer to him.
