Fierce fighting continued throughout the day in the southern suburbs of Bakhmut. The enemy went on the offensive and tried to regain lost ground, but suffered casualties and failed to achieve his objectives; in some sections, our troops captured a kilometer of land – wrote the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Malar on Telegram.
“The enemy brought most of his reserves to Bakhmut and significantly increased his forces, but all attacks were repulsed by our troops– informed the deputy minister. Hanna Malar also added that Ukrainian forces control the south-western part of Bakhmut.
“The enemy also attacked the northern suburbs of Bakhmut; the attacks were repelled. In this area, our troops advanced 500 meters,” Malar wrote. “The defense of Bakhmut and its suburbs serves its military purpose. We are now gaining time for some planned activities– she added.
Located in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, Bakhmut, which is almost completely razed to the ground, the Russians have been trying to occupy for more than nine months. Currently, fighting is taking place both in and around the city, and the Ukrainian side describes this episode as the “epicenter” of fighting on the entire eastern front.
Before the war, the city had a population of over 70,000. residents.
