Checo Pérez sees a “good day” after the first free practice of the Spanish GP

The Mexican Sergio “Checo” Perez (Red Bull), second in the Formula 1 World Championship (F1)who set the fourth time in the free practice day for the Spanish Grand Prix, the seventh of the year, declared today Friday at the Montmeló circuit (Barcelona) that “we will have to go up a gear in qualifying” of this Saturday; which in his opinion “will be key, as will tire degradation” on this track.

“We always try a lot of things in Barcelona, ​​because it is always the most representative track that we visit and it makes everything fit with a view to the season,” said Checo Pérez, born 33 years ago in Guadalajara, who He is second in the World Cup with 105 points, 39 less than the leader, his partner, the Dutchman Max Verstappen, who is aiming for a third title in a row.

“The changes on the track with the last two corners (the chicane at the end of the Montmeló track was eliminated) is difficult for the neck, although it was a short day; but without a doubt we will notice it much more on Sunday. It will be difficult for the muscles”, added the Mexican from the Austrian team, six times victorious in F1, two of them this year: in Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan.

“Today has been a good day, we have a lot of information that we can analyze tonight,” commented the driver from Guadalajara this Friday in Montmeló, where last year he was second and only the strategy of his team deprived him of victory, in favor of “Mad Max”.

“I think, in any case, that there have been a lot of positives to take away, but we will have to go up a gear for Qualy, as well as understand the tires on long runs. That and tire degradation will be crucial on Sunday in this track”, Checo commented after finishing fourth in the free practice timetable this Friday.
