Epidemic situation of measles incidence may worsen due to increased tourism – Ministry of Health of Armenia – aysor.am

World news

The epidemiological situation with measles in the world remains tense, the Armenian Ministry of Health reports.

“Statistics show that the number of cases of measles in the world in 2022 increased by about 80% compared to 2021: the trend continues today. Cases of measles are registered in almost all countries of the world. The epidemic situation is also of concern in the WHO European Region.

In Armenia, the epidemiological situation in terms of measles incidence is also unfavorable.

Since March 3, so far, 209 laboratory-confirmed cases of measles have been recorded in Armenia, 8 of which are citizens of the Republic of Armenia who fell ill during the trip.

The epidemiological situation for the incidence of measles may worsen, given the current intensification of tourism.

The Ministry of Health of Armenia recommends that citizens who are not vaccinated or who have not completed a full course of vaccination, and who have not been ill in the past, should be vaccinated against measles at least 10 days before travel.

The best and most effective way to prevent is vaccination. Anyone who has not received two doses of the measles vaccine can go to the local clinic and get vaccinated,” the message says.
