The award-winning film director was received by Governor Gerardo Morales, toured Purmamarca and made contact with the transformative initiatives that, in terms of renewable energy, lithium production and sustainable ventures, have been launched there.

The visit continues in Buenos Aires where the filmmaker will participate in the Sustaining Forum organized by the Advanced Leadership Foundation and the Media Hub group.

Jujuy, June 8, 2023.- The successful filmmaker, producer and tireless environmental activist James Cameron visited the province of Jujuy this Thursday. He had the opportunity to see first-hand the sustainable productive development of this province linked to the deployment in energy matters. The Cauchari photovoltaic park is the largest in Latin America; and learned about solar thermal plants and the enormous potential that it has in terms of lithium that progressively brings it closer to energy self-sufficiency, while contributing to the national energy network.

Governor Gerardo Morales received him in the city and from there they traveled to Purmamarca to tour the landscapes of the northern Argentine province.

Cameron, director of some of the highest-grossing films in Hollywood history (such as Avatar and Titanic), is a tireless environmental activist, collaborator of the United Nations program against Climate Change, investor in sustainable companies and an international reference in ocean regeneration matter.

Passionate about sustainability, he created the Avatar Alliance Foundation to work on issues of climate change, energy policy, deforestation, indigenous rights, ocean conservation, and ranching.

“Caring for the environment must be a cause of humanity and the backbone of all government and human action. It is the axis that moves the world’s agenda” said Governor Morales and in the same sense stressed that “investment in resources, technology and training to face the fight are essential.”

Along these lines, Morales explained that: “since 2015 the provincial government has implemented the “Jujuy Verde” plan with the aim of developing renewable and sustainable energy projects throughout the province, to reverse the energy matrix and meet the objectives of being Carbon Neutral for the year 2050. We have also been pioneers in the diversity of regulations, complying with the Forest Law, developing a system to deal with forest fires, with a Center for the protection of native fauna, among other actions to guarantee an environmental policy active, under the premise that Sustainable Development must be a transversal policy to guarantee the right of people to a healthy environment, which is a Human Right”.

Cameron’s visit will continue in the city of Buenos Aires where he will participate, as keynote speaker, in the Sustaining Forum on Friday afternoon at La Rural de Palermo with the aim of raising awareness in society about the impact of climate change and analyzing opportunities for transformation. through the sustainable economy.

The Sustainable Development Forum will have the presence of national and international speakers who will analyze and debate how to promote sustainable transformation processes through communication, productive development and tourism.
