Members of the Entrepreneurship Council appealed to President Andrzej Duda to veto the law on the establishment of the State Commission for the Study of Russian Influences in Poland. “We are witnessing an unprecedented devaluation of the legislative process in Poland,” they write in a statement.

On Sunday, the Entrepreneurship Council published an appeal to the president, in which he calls for an end to activities that make “Poland move away from the standards adopted in Western countries”, and to veto the so-called lex Tusk. “Recently, we have seen an unprecedented devaluation of the legislative process in Poland. Successive bills are written under the guise of MPs’ bills to circumvent the functioning of institutions established to guard the legal order and the principles of a democratic state ruled by law. These practices cause us great concern, primarily as citizens, but also as representatives of the Polish business community.

The Entrepreneurship Council adds that “a stable legal order is the basis of every civilized society and the foundation of a healthy economy. Polish entrepreneurs see the unpredictability of the legal system in Poland as the biggest obstacle to the development of their business for years. They add that the guarantee of stability in the state is the Constitution and the rights enshrined in it. “The last bulwark of the credibility of our state and the stability of the conditions for doing business in our country is the protection of fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland.” They argue that “creating law on a purely political order destroys not only the internal trust of citizens, including entrepreneurs, in the state, but also causes irreparable damage to our country’s reputation on the international arena.”

The law is the inquisition and the hood courts

“The Act on the establishment of the State Commission for the Study of Russian Influences on the Internal Security of the Republic of Poland in 2007-2022, adopted by the Sejm majority, is a glaring example of all the above-mentioned sins of the Polish law-making system: from violating the principles of the legislative process, through breaking the constitutional order, to flagrantly using regulations for political struggle. It is de facto the introduction of the inquisition and the hood courts,” reads the appeal.

The Entrepreneurship Council explains that the appointment of the said commission “creates a precedent that in the future may lead millions of Poles to deprive them of their constitutionally guaranteed civil rights without a trial.” In addition, according to the organization of entrepreneurs, “the entry into force of this act would result in Poland moving further away from the standards adopted in Western democracies, and thus, it would cause a dramatic deterioration of the climate for the operation and development of our companies.”

“As citizens and as organizations of entrepreneurs, we call on the President to categorically put a stop to such practices and to veto the law on the establishment of the State Commission for the Study of Russian Influences on the Internal Security of the Republic of Poland in 2007-2022,” write the members of the council at the end.
