Millions are eagerly waiting for what the minimum wage will be in July. The government had set the minimum wage at $500. However, the employer sector is opposed to making the calculation over the exchange rate.
BUSINESS WORLD WANTS CALCULATIONS ON INFLATION
Istanbul Chamber of Commerce President Şekib Avdagiç, who wanted the minimum wage increase to be evaluated in TL, said, “Our expectation for the minimum wage increase rate is to take into account the CPI of the first 6 months.”
BUSINESS WORLD EXPECTATION 10 THOUSAND TL
If the calculation is made on the inflation voiced by the business world, the workers will be disappointed. According to TUIK data, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 15.26 percent for the first 5 months. According to the 15 percent increase, the new minimum wage is 9 thousand 775 liras. However, with the addition of June inflation, this figure is expected to rise to 10 thousand liras.
WORKER’S EXPECTATION 12 THOUSAND TL
The working class, on the other hand, is tightly clinging to the $500 account. If the minimum wage is calculated in dollars, not as the employer wants, the new minimum wage will rise to 11 thousand 500 liras. If the welfare share is added to this, the figure is expected to rise to the level of 12 thousand liras.
